Senior Softball Womenıs Advisory Council (SSWAC)
Summit Meeting Minutes, January 18 & 19, 2003

The formation meeting of the SSWAC occurred in conjunction with the National Senior Softball Summit in Arlington, TX. The following representatives of senior softball organizations and geographical areas are active supporters of senior softball for women and have accepted invitations to be SSWAC members:

Most of the members were either present or provided inputs for the meeting. Pat Lawlis chaired the meeting.

The SSWAC defined its mission "to develop a network to better serve senior women."

The #1 current concern of the members is to make the womenıs age divisions consistent among all senior softball organizations. The SSWAC recommendation to the Summit was for all organizations to transition to "true" divisions as soon as possible, where every player on a team is at least as old as the name of the division. For example, all players on a 50+ team would be at least 50.

The SSWAC will work to encourage more age divisions for women in tournaments, better fields, and better schedules for women. Addressing these issues will require good tournament staffing and good organization. It was noted that women appreciate social amenities in conjunction with a tournament as long as tournament play is not affected.

A brief 3 question survey will be distributed to players at 2 4 tournaments this year in different geographic regions to get feedback on other issues that the SSWAC may address in the future. The survey will address the issues of:

1) initial count on the batter (0-0 or 1-1)
2) number of players on the field in the 50+ division (10 or 11)
3) game-controlling run rules (5 runs max per inning or mercy rule)

Other issues and ideas will also be solicited from players, coaches, and managers.

Pat Lawlis will chair the SSWAC for the first 2 years, and Sylvia Mergl will be Vice Chair. The officers will rotate in the same manner as the Summit officers. The Chair will serve for 2 years. When the Chairıs term is completed, the Vice Chair will become Chair, and the outgoing Chair will become Vice Chair for the first year of the next Chairıs term. A new Vice Chair will be elected for the following year and will transition to Chair the year after that. The previous Chair will become Vice Chair for a year, and then a new Vice Chair will be elected for the following year. And the cycle will repeatŠ

The SSWAC will communicate via e-mail and phone and will meet at the Summit and at the USSSA Senior Womenıs World Tournament each year.

The National Senior Softball Summit approved a National Combined Senior Softball Rating System in its annual meeting in Marietta, Georgia, in February 2000.

This website represents the combined ratings that are supported by all nine national softball organizations.

If you have a question regarding the ratings, changes in team names, disbanded teams, or teams that have moved up in age group, or information concerning a team's ratings, you can contact any of the three members of the Ratings Committee listed on the appeals form.
